Monterey Classic

Entries are being accepted for this year's Monterey Classic. At this time the tournament is over 65% full with 33 entries received. This year's event will be limited to 50 teams. When 50 teams are signed up a wait list will be established.

If you do not have a Classic Flier/Entry form you can download it using the link below. There are also entries in the locker room. If you plan on playing we urge you to get your entry in soon.

President's Cup

The President's Cup has officially begun. The 2020 President’s Cup has a new format with a traditional ending. This year we are moving from a net score format to a match play format but will continue to have the traditional Green Jacket presentation to the overall champion.

At the cocktail party Saturday Jan. 4th Doug Hoffort went over the Handicapping for the event and answered several question. Following the questiuon & answer session the pairings for the 1st Round of the PC were unveiled.

The 2020 Member-Member is scheduled for January 24-26. Friday, Jan. 24 is Hole Horse Race on the East Course.

Round 1 of the Member-Member Tournament on Saturday will be a Better Ball format.

Round 2 will be a Shamble.

Both days will be 8:30 shotgns with Coffee & Donuts at the Gazebo prior to the shotgun.

Skins Games at Monterey

For new members, there are several skins games during the week. These games are private games run by various individuals. Most accept new players but each game has its own guidelines. The Men's Club does not sponsor or run any of these games.

A Quick Summary of Each Game:

Monday --Jerry Eaves Game - No HDCP limit. They usually play from the Forward/Forward Challenge Tees. Team Game with Skins.

Tuesday -- Bud Ashcraft Game - This game is pretty full with a roster of 60. If interested contact Bud Ashcraft

Wednesday --

Joe Fonzo Game - Game starts at 8:00. Single digit HDCP play from the Black Tees, others from the Silver Tees. Team Game with Skins (No limit on skins HDCP.

Frank Davis Game - Game starts at 11:30. All players play from the Back Challenge Tees. Team Game with Skins (18 Max on Skins HDCP).

Ray Miraglia Game - Very relaxed game. This game is referred to as the "Short Putt" game played in the morning. HDCPs range from single digit to 30.

Friday -- Tim Lillard Game - Shotgun start in late morning. Team Game with Skins (18 Max on Skins HDCP.)

Saturday — Play Day for Men’s Club. The Game is an individual Net game with skins.This game is run through the Pro Shop.

Team Play 2020

Monterey played their second match of the season against Mt. View at Deser Horizons on Thursday Jan. 16. Monteey came away with their first win of the season with an 79-65 win over Mt. View..

Monterey's next match is against Palm Valley at Mt. View on Tuesday Jan. 28

Handicap Changes in 2020

Beginning January 1, 2020 the Handicapping system will undergo major changes that will affect us all. Some of those changes include:

  • Having your handicap updated every day.
  • Having your handicap based on the lowest 8 scores out of 20 rounds.
  • Allowing you to take a NET double bogey on a hole.

Handicap Survey

The Men's Club Board met Wenesday Nov. 6 and adopted a Torurnament Handicapping policy. Effective immediately, all tournaments will use the Low Index of the past 3 months (6 revisions). This decision is in line with the results from the member survery taken 2 months ago.
